Decent upgrade to the older "Dropcam HD"
This is my fifth DropCam, so obviously I love them. SUPER easy to setup (less than a minute) and you have a live webcam.

This new one ("DropCam Pro") seems to have slightly better video quality than the previous ones. When compared side by side green looks a little "greener" and the picture is a bit sharper.

It also increased the field of view, which can be good or bad depending on your particular use.

WARNING: they are *ONLY* for "indoor use", but I make my own enclosures for outside in an ocean environment (looking at surfers and waves) and it holds up pretty well. I plan to seal up this with Silicone Sealant ($5 at any hardware store, Amazon sells it also) and try it outside. I'll update this review as I get some experience (like if it dies quickly).

If you Google search for "Weatherproof Dropcam" and look for a link on "ski-epic" that shows the DIY (Do it Yourself) totally for free way to waterproof your Dropcam. NOTE: I'm not selling...

Pros:
(Quality) Its very modern, sleek, the materials its made out of are premium.
(Setup) Very Simple - Just plug it into your computer then into a outlet and connect to WiFi and thats it.
(Video) Very clear video both on your computer and iOS app in normal zoom mode
(iOS 7 App) Great App. I get notifications all the time that the camera picks up (dogs barking) it even picks up birds outside.
(Audio Feature) The audio talk back feature only works when NOT in the night vision mode. I have been in touch with tech support to the point they replaced the camera and the new one has the same issue. Talk-back works great in daylight.

Cons:
(Streaming) I have Verizon FiOS 50Mpbs/30Mbps Wireless and there is a slight streaming delay with both video and talk back feature on LTE and WiFi.

Does not get easier
I ordered the Dropcam Pro yesterday and it arrived today. I had already downloaded the app to my phone and tablet in anticipation of the arrival. I opened the box to find attractive packaging and a quality looking product. I grabbed my phone plugged the USB into a wall and connected the camera using the included micro USB port. By the time I had opened the app the camera was already doing its thing.

The app prompts you to sign in or create an account with minimal personal information. From there it suggested that it could 'look' for cameras, I tapped the screen and it immediately locates the camera. Next it asks you to select your desired wifi network and prompted me for the password. Once I typed the password in the camera feed immediately appeared on screen.

I have dabbled in a few other wifi security cameras but it does not get any easier than this. A generous angle view is satisfactory for the lack of a pan feature (meaning there is no motor to go bad). An...

Three things to know before you purchase Nest Protect
First, let me say that we own a first-generation Nest Thermostat, which we pre-ordered and received as soon as they came on the market, and we have been pretty happy with it and its features, despite the price. Also, although Nest isn't affiliated with Apple, I'm a self-admitted Apple fan, and there are definitely strong Apple influences in the Nest products -- in this case, some good, some bad.

We had pre-ordered five from Nest directly (the max you could pre-order) but saw them on display at Home Depot this weekend and purchased both a wired and battery operated unit, because we were excited to get them home and install them. As we opened them up and started reading the instructions, a few major product shortcomings came to light, that aren't really stated in any of the official Nest marketing materials, and if the facts are there, the way these facts are major limitations to certain households aren't obvious.

Given the $129 price tag, I expect the thing to do...
Great Product, Highly Recommend.
I purchased six of these for my entire house. Probably one of the best investments I have installed, as far as safety and convenience go, so far.

The smoke detectors I had previously were VERY sensitive and would go off even when no one could see any smoke in the house (normally from cooking greasier foods -bacon-, and a time or two something has boiled over in the oven).

Much like in the Nest video, I was one of those individuals that could only wave a towel at the alarm so many times before I would end up taking off the ceiling and taking out the battery. Not safe, but it was the only way to get through dinner sometimes. I'm not the only one in the neighborhood with this issue either. I can hear one of the neighbor's alarms going off on nearly a daily basis, and I doubt there are that many bad cooks in the area, despite what others may claim. These contractor installed alarms are just too sensitive.

Excellent for a new product line with room to improve
I already have a nest thermostat which I LOVE. it is probably one of the best designed products I use on a daily basis. I can't say enough good things about it.

I just bought some nest protect smoke + CO alarms. Here are some first impressions:

1. The units are smaller than I imagined and that is good. they are well made. The packaging is simple but impeccable. Everything fits like a glove. Everything is recyclable.

2. The nest iPad app is better than the previous version (before the Protect) but it still buries information too deeply. Too "nested" if you will. iPhone app is slightly better on this regard.

3. Set up was surprisingly hard. They put a QR code on the back of the detector. Excellent! I thought to myself. Now I don't have to type the unique ID to configure the device. Yes, but do the natural thing and turn it upside down and you will press the button which controls the device and likely switch modes or something else bad. I set...

Moultrie M-880 beats Bushnell Trophy HD
I own several game cameras: Bushnell Trophy 8MP HD, Primos Truth Cam 35, and now a Moultrie M-880. I have been operating the Moultrie for 10 days so far. I've used the Bushnell for about 6 months. I've used the Primos for almost one year. The Moultrie clearly beats the Bushnell in several characteristics. (The Primos does not rank against these two cameras.)

1. In the field, and I know there are lab results that claim differently, but in the field, the Moultrie triggers faster than the Bushnell. This was easily noticeable in the first set of pictures I downloaded. I have had both cameras in the same position monitoring the same section of my driveway (we have a long driveway). The Bushnell often catches the very end of the rear quarter panel as a car is exiting the field of view. The Moultrie catches the front quarter panel as a car enters the field of view. Wow! Then it catches pictures of the entire car as it passes by. I knew that was significant at first...
Best value out there!
All things considered this camera is a super buy. I'm sure there are better cameras out there if you want to hang $600 on a tree and walk away. The only negative is that with the "freeze" motion thing on some of the detail is lost at night. This camera is well worth the money.
Great camera for spying on feral cats
The only drawback was the memory card that comes with it is too small. Be sure to get Lithium batteries and at leat a 32GB card and you will get lots of hours of use and plenty of pictures.

Moultrie 990i
This camera is phenomenal. I just downloaded the memory card after the camera was in the field for one week. I had 398 images of deer, turkey and coons. There were some "landscape" photos, but we had a major storm move through the area on May 30th.

I set the camera up for a 2 shot burst and it performed flawlessly. The daytime picture clarity is second to none. Some of the night time photos were a bit grainy, but not bad. Be sure to use a Sandisk, class 10, 32MB data card with these cameras. They are a bit pricey, but you can typically find them on Amazon for half of what they cost at Best Buy or other big box stores. You will also want to use Energizer Ultimate lithium batteries.
GREAT CAMERA
Chose this camera because of several great reviews I've read about it. Set it up near my garden hoping to see what critters were taking all my veggies and I found out the very next day after receiving the camera. Got 1 photo of a deer and 18 of my neighbor and her daughter stripping the veggie plants clean. Confronted them with printed photos and haven't seen them since. GREAT PRODUCT. Mick

I hate cold weather and I could never find a coat or jacket that would keep me warm when the winds blows strong. I found it. Easy to use, durable and comfortable I've had to use it several times this season when morning temps dropped into the lower 40's and it performed like a champ.

I will say I normally wear a 38 coat and the medium fits me snug, so you may want to size up if you want extra room especilly around the mid-section. You will need to get a 3ft USB cable to thread into the already made path to access the cell phone charging, but with my phone charging and the jacket on the battery lasted over 6 hrs. Recharging was quick, for me less than an hour, and the yellow indicator/adaptor is easy to read and accurate.

I highly recommend this to everyone.
Decent coat, lousy electric blanket
I work in an office, one which is perpetually too cold in the winter. Today was my first trial run with the new electric coat, and I can sum it up as "meh".

The coat itself is fine, roomy, and comfortable. Overall it's constructed well, though the zipper has a hard time engaging at the bottom. The battery charges up quickly and fits in a specially-constructed pouch in the back. While it's out of the way if you're standing, the battery will dig into your back somewhat if you're seated.

The biggest issue with this coat is also the only reason I bought it: the heating elements. There's only a few in the lower torso area, and even on the highest setting they don't get all that warm. To make things worse, the battery only lasts about 3.5 hours with the heaters on full. If you're hoping for an Electric Snuggie, this isn't it. The electric heating is more of a gimmick than anything.
