Pocket Radar

Pocket Radar-Pro Performance in the Palm of Your Hand

Pocket Radar is the next generation in radar technology. It delivers the same great accuracy of other professional radar guns at a fraction of the cost and fits in the palm of your hand. Its compact size allows you to keep it within reach any time you need it.

Pocket Radar

Pocket Radar allows anyone to afford the same accurate speed measurements as other professional radar guns in a smaller, more convenient package. The hand-held size allows you to take measurements discreetly without changing the behavior of athletes or those you are observing. It can do more than traditional radar guns, including measuring runner speed and acceleration, as well as ball speed out of the hand, and Ball Exit Speed off the bat, stick, club, or racquet. Pocket Radar works great for traffic safety/engineering, baseball, softball, volleyball, tennis, hockey, lacrosse, soccer, golf, cricket, motorsports, R/C hobbies, winter sports, education, and many more.

Pocket Radar
Powerful Training Tool

Add more power to your hit or kick, and more speed and control to throws or pitches. Accurate speed measurement allows you to see the direct results of your training. Now you can have an accurate measure of the power of your hit. For every 1 MPH increase in Ball Exit Speed off the bat, you can add 5 extra feet of distance to a baseball or softball hit. Pocket Radar is convenient and rugged enough for everyday use, from National Championship-winning coaches (see below) to anyone interested in improving their skills.

Innovation from the Inside Out

The Pocket Radar is a versatile and affordable sports training tool used by coaches and teams from pro to amateur. The simple point-and-shoot interface easily allows you to measure speed with the touch of a single button and can take over 10,000 readings from two standard AAA batteries. This allows you to go months, instead of hours, on a single set of batteries. Built from the same high-impact plastic as hockey helmets, the Pocket Radar is rugged enough to perform well in even the most demanding sports environments.

Pocket Radar
How It Works

The Pocket Radar is a Doppler speed radar system, which works by emitting a small pulse of radio waves in an invisible focused beam, similar to the shape of a flashlight beam. When the radio wave hits an object that is moving toward or away from the Pocket Radar, a small amount of the wave reflects back. The Pocket Radar receives the reflected radio wave and compares it to the original transmitted radio wave, calculates the difference between the two waves, and displays the object's speed--all of which happens almost instantly.

Pocket Radar
Breakthrough Technology

The Pocket Radar has received multiple industry awards including the Consumer Electronics Show's (CES) "Innovation Honoree in Personal Electronics" award. awesome little unit
When this arrived in the mail I put the batteries in and started walking to the local park to try it out. On the way there I came across a police car doing speed checks on the access road. We ran checks between his laser unit and this one - all readings were either dead on or only 1MPH difference. Just what I was looking for.
Impressive little radar
My wife says I can't resist anything that measures. Perhaps she is right - the moment I saw the Pocket Radar mentioned in Make Magazine I knew I wanted one. Fortunately, my boss beat me to it so I got to try his before buying mine. My comments are based on a few weeks of use:

Construction:

The radar feels quite solid overall. Many have commented on the soft feel of the red button and when I called the company (still small enough to be very accessible) with questions I asked about this. They said that they had tried buttons with more "snap" but snapping/shaking the unit at the very instant the unit is activated was not good for accuracy. An improvement I would consider would be to have the button on the side so any movement due to pushing the button would not be in the direction of the measurement but I haven't noticed any significant change in reading due to pushing the button.

Accuracy:

I mounted the unit in my car and drove on empty roads...
Good for some applications, but not all.
I really, REALLY wanted this to work. I've been considering a new radar gun for baseball training, but the $800 cost of the latest Jugs model held me back. When I first heard about the Pocket Radar and read glowing reviews, I decided to give it a try.

When received, the unit was very easy to set up, and the instructions for use were clear, well-diagrammed and easy to follow. The positive reviews are all correct in terms of the unit's portability, manageable size and light weight. It's certainly no problem to use the unit for long periods of time.

I did not have the same experience as other users in regards to the accuracy of this device. I first tested it my car. I set the cruise control at a set speed as identified by the speedometer, and took readings for an hour or so, at different speeds. On average, Pocket Radar gave results 3 mph lower than the car's velocity.

My next trip was to a local field, to try it against live pitching. I went to a local...
